Starting point challenge

By the time the challenges started coming out on Friday it was already too late here and I was in bed.  It was lovely though to wake up to a whole list of challenges the next morning that I could mull over while at work :-)  The starting point challenge immediately called out my name as most of the time that is the part I agonise over for AGES!  Here was the start we were given and we could do it in any papers and colours that we wanted to.

I began with a photo of The Thinker with his best friend.  I was worried that he would find it hard to find another great friend after we moved half way around the world ... I shouldn't have worried as he is a great kid and people love him.  I used Basic Grey 'Granola' (more of my stash being used!) and felt so relaxed as I worked on this one as it literally all fell together.

I ink and distressed a piece of muslin in camo colours.  I had a chipboard bit of barbed wire which I embossed and added to it.  I even got to use my i-rock on this page on the dark metallic studs.  The letters are Petaloo 'Colour me Crazy Alphas' that start out white and are a great base for inking and spraying.  I used my new fav glimmer mist 'Bell Bottom Jeans' on these.

Of course the Cuttlebug came out to play and added the friend detailing at the top of the blue strip.  I then used another folder sideways and repeated that image three times along the rest of the blue.  It looks great inked with weathered wood.

Quick easy and satisfying!
Chipper

P.S. I had to smudge the face of S as he is not my son :-)  You can't go around posting pictures of just anyone on the net!

  3. Wow, Chipper, this is one of my fave ever boy pages. Having 3 sons I have struggled before with boy pages. This is very inspiring. Where did you get the chipboard barbed wire if you don't mind me asking? Dd was orienteering yesterday... Your page has given me some good ideas for that too.

  5. Thanks everyone, it has turned out to be one of my fav layouts.

Mandy, the barbed wire is made by a local company called The Dusty Attic (www.dustyattic.com.au) and I looked up their stockist list and found a supplier in the UK www.thecraftzboutique.com So they might have some or could get it, there was also one bricks and mortar shop who had it but that will only help if it is close to you LOL. It is just laser cut chipboard in the shape of barbed wire, but GREAT for boys pages. The same company also make chipboard chicken wire and all sorts of other tribal flourishes good for boys.

  6. Thanks , Chipper, I looked up the craftzboutique.com site and they had some dusty attic chipboard items but no barbed wire. Do you know where the bricks and mortar shop is? I'd really love to get some. thanks for all your help.

  7. Mandy,

It is Cindy's Scrap Shop Unit 1/ 5 Jessap Way,
    Newartk, UK, ng242er cindysscrapshop@hotmail.co.uk

We stock it too, but I am currently out of all the boy stuff :-( if you go to the Dusty Attic site you can click on a link to see all the suppliers. There are also quite a few elsewhere in Europe. www.dustyattic.com.au You can't buy from that site, but it will also show you all the other yummies she makes :-)

  8. Thanks for the info... I think I'm gonna chase up this barbed wire chipboard and see what else they do. There's another Australian chipboard manufacturer/designer online called thechipchopshop, someone called leeann Pearce. I love her scrappy style and her chipboard. I ordered a cuipboard birdcage from her... So cute, just one little chipboard birdcage in the post. The Aus scrapbooking scene looks so amazing.

  9. Congrats on your win, Chipper!! This is a great page! I LOVE that you used chipboard barbed wire!! I had no idea anyone made such a thing, but it fits perfectly on your page! I also love all the details you put on this layout--the dog tags are a wonderful addition!

  10. Congrats on winning! Just posting to say there is a typo on the Australian stockist site, it is actually Newark, which by happy coincidence is a half hour drive from me! When my bank phones I shall blame it all on you!

  11. Thanks everyone :-)

To Ta Da! Crafts : I thought it must have been a typo when I was posting it, but just incase it wasn't Newark I left it the same. Glad you cleared it up. I have no problem taking the blame for your shopping, although I think your bank manager might think you a little mad LOL Enjoy the shopping :-)
